The Green Spine – a new linear park to the east of Spencer’s Park Phase 2

The creation of quality landscaping and green spaces has been carefully considered and provided throughout the entirety of Spencer’s Park Phase 2. Landscape features, play spaces and open spaces are provided for, with the primary area of new open space and play space being The Green Spine – a linear park to the east of Spencer’s Park Phase 2. There will also be local areas of play space across the development.

The Green Spine

A central feature of the new landscape strategy, The Green Spine is a linear park that runs alongside the existing woodland area. It will be the focal point for active recreation, with a large formal play space for children to the south of The Green Spine and further informal play spaces, using natural materials only like logs and boulders, spread along the length of the park.

A generously landscaped southern entrance off Three Cherry Trees Lane will be marked by a wildlife pond, which will form an additional focal point for biodiversity and habitat creation. Further habitat space will be created along the eastern edge of The Green Spine, with a vegetated swale, planted with wetland meadow plants and trees.

A pedestrian and cycle lane will run the length of The Green Spine, connecting Three Cherry Trees Lane with the Nickey Line.

There will be a range of smaller public spaces and play spaces where residents can come together, with areas of open space designed so that every resident is a short 3-4-minute walk from a usable open space. A further informal games area suitable for kicking a ball around is located to the north.
